Tradition (1973)-Kasrielevky-The World of Shalom Alechim (Fiddler-1973)

10"x14" B/W edition 200 pieces

"Soloman Naumovich Rabinovich, better known as Sholem Aleichem, was born in 1859 and died in 1916. He was a Yiddish author and playwright who lived in the Russian Empire and the United States. The 1964 musical Fiddler on the Roof, based on Aleichem's stories about Tevye the Dairyman, was the first commercially successful English language stage production about Jewish life in Eastern Europe."

The Hebrew phrase means "may peace be upon you" and is a traditional greeting in Hebrew and Yiddish.

Sholem Aleichem created Tevye and the modern Jewish sense of Tradition. My family never missed Fiddler on the Roof when it came to Broadway. My father enjoyed the show so much that he met both the stars, and he was excited to draw this lithograph.
