Collection: Watercolors

The earliest watercolors in this section date from the late 30’s. My father was 14 when he received his first set of watercolor paints. He was self-taught and practiced when not in school (6 days a week), playing soccer, chess, or fishing. The limited paper supply he received was divided between schoolwork, his drawings, and paintings. Fortunately, he had a loving older brother and many cousins who supported his love of art and supplied him with scraps of paper. Many of his earliest works can be found in the homes of family  Israel.

Life in Palestine was not easy in the 20s and 30s, and my grandfather disapproved of my father's idea of becoming an artist. Still, my father pursued his talents throughout his childhood and teens. When he moved to the USA, he studied art and continued to master lithography, etching, working with glass for panels and stained glass windows, sculpture, and woodworking. In the 1970s-1990s, he produced a small number of watercolors.
