My father said, "the title of a picture was as important as the picture itself. The title gives the picture another part of the artists story."
The phrase “The Old Country” was a common term used by American immigrants to mean the place of their birth. From 1820-1924, a steady flow of Jewish people made their way to America- “The Golden Land”. The most significant surge was at the beginning of the 20th century. The scribe studying was a friend of my fathers who came to the USA to live on the lower East side. He came from Prague and described his life in Prague, coming to America and life in NYC. According to my fathers diary, the mans life was hard, but balanced.
