“The German Village (HaMoshava HaGermanif) was established in Ottoman Haifa in 1868 as a Christian German Templar Colony in Palestine. It was the first of the colonies established in the Holy Land.” Some of the original buildings are still used today. Today, the main Boulevard-David Ben Gurion has hotels, boutiques, small cafes, and bars, which are popular among visitors and residents. The picture 'Steps to Haifa-German Village' was painted in 1951.It was never displayed, and was kept in a portfolio of sketches for over 70 years. It is signed, Emanuel, 1951, with the title German Village.
