Simhat Torah (1971)
10"x14" B/W Edition 180
The word Simhat Torah means “The Joy of Life.” It is the second day of Sh’mini Atzeret in the Diaspora. It is the day on which the annual cycle of the Torah readings begins and ends. This holiday ( event) is not in the Talmud, as it occurred after the close of the canon. The celebration begins in the evening. After the full Kaddish is recited, the Torah scrolls are removed from the Ark and paraded around the Sanctuary (Hakkafot), singing and dancing. There are 7 Hakkafot, which gives many opportunities for different people to carry the Torah. It is a joyous time for friends and family to celebrate.
