A Shofar is an ancient musical horn typically made of a ram’s horn (male sheep-at least one-year-old). The long and twisted Shofars are made from bushbuck horns (antelope). A shofar must be free of cracks/breaks. A shofar maker removes the covering from the bone and inspects it for cracks and foreign substances to be considered Kosher.
The covering is blown in synagogue services on Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur. It is also blown every weekday morning in the month of Elul to Rosh Hashanah. Pitch control is determined by the player.
The drawing for the Shofar Maker is from a sketch pad from 1985.
