6"x9" B/W Edition 40 pieces
"Shepherd Of Judea" is the 5th piece in the etching series. The shepherd theme was important to my dad, and in 1983, a lithograph named Home Valley was made but never released. My father was a historian and often included biblical stories in conversations.
What is very interesting in this picture is that the man is holding a baby lamb. According to the Bible, sheep can be traced back 5000 years in Israel. Jacob's sheep (heritage breed-speckled) are mentioned in Genesis chapter 30:32.
In 2021, Jenna and Gil Lewinsky, a Canadian couple, made it their life's work to reintroduce 119 sheep to Israel. Today, the sheep are considered endangered but produce offspring- under Lewinsky's guidance. The horns are used for making shofars.
