"My concept for this piece comes from a poem by Yehuda Halevi, who, in my opinion, is the greatest of medieval Jewish poets. He was called The Sweet Singer of Zion. He gave up the life of being a physician, philosopher, and poet to go to the city that he loved - Jerusalem. According to folklore, as soon as he reached Jerusalem, he was killed by an Arab horseman as he knelt to kiss the Earth of the city. I superimposed the head of a scholar over a background of buildings near the Western Wall in Jerusalem. It is an area that, to me romantically, is perpetual. Jerusalem was constantly a center for learning and furthering one's soul…this is the concept of on Eagles wings….Most Fair of cities." E.S.
