"The Mystic Whaler was inspired by my many visits to Mystic, Connecticut, where there is a living museum of the old sailing ships from the whaling days. I first visited Mystic in the late-40s as a student at the Art Students League in New York. The pallet of colors I have used is limited to a narrow color range to reflect the harder side of life at sea." E.S.
During the 1960s-1980s, my Father and I went to Mystic, Connecticut together. I saw things through his eyes I would have never noticed. His pallet of monotone tones was as rich as the vibrant colors in some of his works.
My Father loved the sea, fishing, and boating. For a man who was a very weak swimmer, he was fearless in the small boats we would take into the ocean and fish.
The Mystic Whaler was a boat anchored in the harbor.
