High Holidays-private collection
The Shofar is the horn of a kosher animal (ram), and the marrow is removed. It is blown on several Jewish Holidays and up to 100 times during the morning services of Rosh Hashanah. It reminds God of all the good deeds and sacrifices.
The Shofar may be blown until Sunset and in the morning after the Torah is read and before the Musaf Prayer. The piercing wail serves to awaken slumbering souls that have grown complacent.
