1981 was a challenging year for my father due to health issues. He struggled to draw and paint and used a special brace on his right hand and arm. During the year, he completed 2 masterpieces. A Long Thin Line was a unique lithographic edition. He hand-colored 50 pieces as an exercise (physical therapy) to help him recover. The concept for the painting(shown) was created in 1980 but was never completed. He was passionate about the image and spent months drawing and preparing the litho and, over a year, hand-coloring every piece. The title and image are intriguing. The thin line is a term my father used, "between life and death." The piece shown is the starting point for the hand color process.
